The postpartum diet should be one that is rich in vitamins, minerals and fiber. Try to keep cut up veggies and fruit in your fridge to eat and avoid processed, packaged food even if it does say "natural" on the label. Remember, if you are willing to cook good, nutritious food for yourself, not only will your health benefit, but you will instill a taste for healthy food in your children… and maybe a love for hanging out in the kitchen with mom experiencing the comfort and joy that can come from preparing and sharing food together!
Somehow we've managed to turn eating into "rocket science." It seems like you need a Ph.D. to know what to eat these days. I learned to cook in my mother's kitchen and she learned to cook from her mother. My mother was a farm girl and the rule of thumb was to always use fresh ingredients. She didn't care for things that came out of a box or a can, unless she had canned it herself! Those basics have served me well and I've added a few rules of my own over the years that I don't bother to check out with the experts: Cook high fiber, nutrition dense food. Avoid overly processed foods like chips, crackers, canned anything and stay away from white table sugar!
I am hoping to add to this list
of recipes a little bit each
month, so stay tuned and feel
